Ho Chi Minh trip 2012 // Life as a villager

I've been documenting my life in Vietnam via the Ipad but my Ipad chose to die on me on the fourth day there , even my Ipad hates Vietnam . Anyway , I'll have to re-document my life recounts here all over again so here goes ...

Arrived in Saigon after a short 1hr 40mins flight and you'll eventually find out why my holiday destination is Vietnam .  Prior to my Vietnam trip , I've been trying to imagine the diversity of this foreign land I would be exploring , especially when I was told that I would be living in the Kampong . It took us a painstaking 2 hours road trip to the Village I would be residing at , and I think it was worse off than a 6 hours Genting trip . Imagine the countless breaks and jerks on the bumpy road , dozing off and waking up with a sore neck was not a good start of the trip at all . Upon reaching , it was nothing , I seriously mean nothing of what I imagined it to be .

// My " Hotel " for the first two nights
Of course I was notified/warned beforehand that I would be staying in a 1 star hotel but when the truth unfold before my eyes , I ... couldn't believe it that I was actually anticipating for this getaway trip . I was like living in a guesthouse with a family who owns the "hotel" , a shop-house that's only two stories high .

// The surrounding village
100% mud cracked ground , 100% strictly no English

// Welcome to the room I'd be staying for 2 nights
It was such a huge relief that the room was clean , very clean . Except the sofa that I left untouched because it didn't look as promising . The fact is , there was Free Wifi and a LCD TV with MTV channels so we still had some entertainment . My first night with the hotel was terrible , I actually cried . While I was showering in the middle of the night , the power went off . The short circuit happened because it was their first time experiencing a full occupancy for their hotel as our group booked the entire hotel . The fear and unhappiness built up immediately with me freezing in a completely pitch dark toilet and the worse was the boyfriend was not in the room . Beyond traumatizing , really .

Subsequently , for two nights at the hotel it was a short circuit of at least 5 times a day and once had to always be during my shower so I kinda got used to it over time . I thought I was filming a reality TV show where the host would visit villages and report on the venture , if you get my drift . This was one helluva experience , I took it as the part and parcel of travelling the world .

The only comfort I seeked for a good closure on the first day would be the sumptuous seafood pot and little baby kitties running around . I tell you , the seafood pot was no joke , I could feel the burst of seafood flavors with every mouthful of the soup and it was so addictive , I wished that meal didn't end .

With all that said , I conclude with my first day with all the overflowing emotions and adapting pains . I'm just a villager in prettier clothes , still living in culture shock .

love,
sheryl
