♥ Wedding Updates | Bridal studio hunt

This is seriously overdue.

What I'd been up to late last year - Bridal Studio Hunting

Wedding planning is a very stressful affair. Everything was initially a breeze until I got stuck at the many choices for a local bridal studio. We kinda made a mistake to go with a Taiwan bridal studio for our pre-wedding shoot and so after the shoot, we had to look at actual day packages in Singapore. Honestly, no regrets thou the hassle because our Taiwan bridal studio left us with such a memorable experience. No hiccups nothing, just so much joy and contagious happiness from their team.

In other news, I've did enough bridal shopping to know what I DID NOT WANT but at the same time, there was also nothing that I wanted. I'd strolled down Tanjong pagar and had been to at least 10 bridal studios but nothing attracted me. It was also a tough call between Ala carte or a package because I wanted both. The convenience of a package and the flexibility of the many Ala carte options. After being absolutely stressed for weeks, I finally came to a decision - to just sign a package and to get over and done with it. The main reason was because I foreseen more stress if I were to go with engaging individual vendors. Bottom line is I just want to be a stress free bride.

Two bridal studios that deserve a mention although I ended up not engaging their service.

BQueens Wedding | Blk 442 Ang Mo Kio (Home based)
As much as many friends tell me to avoid home based bridal studios, I chose to go with the underrated. The humble boss, Valent is an amazing lady with so much sincerity. I love how she takes pride in every piece of gown she designed from scratch and is utmost honest on her work. She charges an unbelievably affordable price for gown rentals/MTM gowns, so look no further if you have a tight budget. She doesn't have a wide range to choose from but if you're not too fussy, she would definitely have "the gown" for you. Thankful to have met her, I'd definitely be looking for her again when I am planning for a next photoshoot in time to come.

La Belle Couture | 87 Tanjong Pagar Rd
My impression of La Belle had always been overrated due to the strong publicity all around so I refuse to step in till there was nothing else left to see. Unlike most of the bridal studios at Tanjong Pagar, La Belle Couture do not hard sell at all. The environment was less tense and non pushy which made us felt really at ease so we could make a decision without pressure. It didn't take me too long to decide that I'd engage them because I really like the people there so I made the second appointment to go back for them. BUT the main grip was that I didn't like most of the gown styles at La Belle, I was just very comfortable with their environment (and people). So on my second appointment, I told my coordinator and she said, no obligations to sign the package and to not force it if I didn't like the gowns. Thankful for her honesty in letting me know that the gowns are priority before signing the deal. Look for Vyen if you are looking to sign with La Belle Couture.

Eventually, I walked into Sophia Wedding Collection and signed the deal in less than 30 minutes. So I'd been actually waiting for just one bridal shop that would make me go "Shut up and take my money!". Thankfully I found it and that would be a different story to tell another time.

P.S || Thankful to those who went through this insane phase with me, comforting the deranged bride to be and assuring that I'd eventually find something I like. Thank you B for going through this hunt with me and making sure you are there every time to give me your somehow unreliable opinions. ♥

{Kuala Lumpur} Day 2 & 3

It was Valentine's day and wearing a dress for the day out would have totally made sense if it wasn't to the market. As previously said that I only had >10kg of baggage space and I couldn't bring a wardrobe of clothes along, it meant only a set of clothes per day. I decided it was Valentines day no matter what so I went ahead to the market in a shimmery black dress. Admittedly looking silly while squeezing through the typical oldie market and hunting down breakfast, I wasn't too bothered at the occasional puzzled stares. I was hungry and so excited about eating in a local market that I forgot about looking so out of place.  Just so you know, I love traditional markets to death.

The first stall we saw sold this - 姜酒米粉. It means ginger wine beehoon I think and I haven't seen this before so I jumped at it and said, "I want this! Lets sit down!" Bryan was unimpressed at the fact that we only passed by the first stall and had to start eating already. He knew that it meant we'd have to finish the entire street of food for breakfast before I would be willing to budge. Out-of-the-world goodness, I was completely sold. The soup broth was flavourful and thankfully Bryan didn't like it as much so I finished most of it.

We managed to down another popiah, kaya toast, pork skin curry rice and 2 cuppas hainanese coffee. Almost everything is recommended here so we took the chance to try most of it. Really yummy!

Malaysia is pretty big on their coffees and I like how they take their coffee so seriously. Had to pop by coffee stain during shopping time for a cuppa! Unfortunately, I could only order hot chocolate that would sustain the weight of the foam art so no coffee for me. Just look at my cute kitty!

We went to stroll Petaling street after our dinner at Shangri La. Don't bother, it is just a street of imitation goods (Soccer jerseys, branded bags, shoes, accessories, literally anything actually). But if brands are not an issue, you can actually score a pair of imitation NIKE running shoes at a fraction of the original price.

On our last day, we went back to the market because I wanted a bowl of 姜酒米粉 to myself and he wanted to try the fish head beehoon soup. We got a chee cheong fun (or was it yongtaufoo) to share and it was the best rendition I ever had to marry them both together, with curry drenched all over. Everything were freshly made and prepared upon order so we had to wait in the queue for awhile. But honestly so worth the wait that I regretted not joining the queue when we went the first time. Nostalgic markets like this, please stay for a long long time.
Lazed in the sheets before catching our flight in the evening. Till then, Kuala Lumpur!

{Kuala Lumpur} Day one

We decided to stay with Park royal hotel KL after painstakingly going through the entire Agoda list. We thought we'd pay more for comfort and a strategic location to save more time for the already short trip. Diagonally opposite Berjaya Times Square and directly opposite Sungei Wang Plaza, it was really convenient for us. We also had most of the malls in our vicinity & walking distance to many popular local eateries so it was a good choice!

Mall hopped from Publika mall → Pavilion mall. I was made to go on a disciplined trip, with only ONE hand carry luggage not exceeding 10kg so I couldn't shop much. Initially, I thought there wasn't anything I wanted to buy until I saw shoes! So it became a fruitful shoe shopping trip for me scoring 3 pairs of jelly bunnies!

Bryan's nephew took us to their favourite 大炒 for dinner. It was nice going on a fuss free trip with nothing to worry about. We travelled without an itinerary for the first time and was yet promised good food throughout the trip! Their pork knuckle (only 45RM) is seriously out of the world. I highly recommend: ☑ Fish Head Curry (咖喱鱼头) ☑ Crispy Pork Knuckle (德国猪手).

Shangri la KL || Valentine's day 2015

On our last unofficial Valentine's day together, we decided to step out of our comfort zone and went along with the overrated hype on this supposedly special day. I honestly cringe at the thought of having to mingle in the crowded streets, being swarmed by lovey-dovey couples with big bouquet of flowers and sitting in a restaurant eating the same as everyone else is. Spending an exorbitant amount for that one day is just ridiculous. What on earth is all that excitement about? We eventually decided to get out of Singapore to spend our Anniversary & Valentine's.

Did dinner at lemon garden cafe and it was brilliant. They had an extensive dessert section specially done up for Valentine's! Of course it tasted as good as it looked, Shangri La would never disappoint right? Comparable or even better than The Line, they had a fantastic spread of different cuisines and fresh seafood. Oh! How could I forget the yusheng buffet as well? Despite all that fanciness, there were no price hikes on the usual buffet price of 140RM/pax. Money well spent

{Kuala Lumpur} The Red Beanbag + Wondermilk

Bryan and I spent a weekend in Kuala Lumpur and it was one helluva experience to be roaming in another foreign bustling capital. As soon as we were done checking into our hotel, we flagged a cab down to Publika for brunch.

Publika is confusing.

Or at least, I got confused. It wasn't relatively easy to find the entrance of the restaurant and with Bryan being the better half at directions, we eventually found ourselves... at the back of the restaurant's kitchen. The kind chefs were nice enough to let us through and so we entered the restaurant through the busy kitchen. Given the excuse that we were tourists, I didn't feel too stupid after all.

I'm always caught in a dilemma of having to write about good food which I obviously suck at describing but I really feel the need to. Amazing - definitely one of the best brunches is the best I can do. Their pacific benedict was definitely not one of the best albeit the decency. The irony was that an ordinary looking pasta stole the show (and my heart), is now officially one of the best cream pastas I've had. I love how they are really generous with their ingredients to dish out a good meal like that - Singapore should learn.

We ordered three mains and a latte which was quite alot for two! And apparently being typical Singaporeans, we had to do the exchange rate thing when we were footing the bill.

Our brunch costed us only 96RM = SGD$36.50

We strolled around Publika with bursting bellies and happened to chance by this whimsical cafe tucked in a corner. Decided to pop in for some desserts but it really didn't taste as good as it looked. Don't bother coming for their sweet treats because I'm not even sure if they were cupcakes or sugar cakes. A bite into their cupcakes was just nothing but sugar - crispy sugar bits that masked the entire "flavor". A surprise find would be their flavored milk which is apparently their signature item. Tried their butterscotch milk and I'm completely sold! Should have just invested all my bucks on their milk instead of the cupcakes. Till then!

11 February'15 | Our 4th Anniversary

Amazing how we turned 4 in a blink of an eye. This year we'd be celebrating our last anniversary as singles before we move on to the phase of officially celebrating wedding anniversaries in future. Initially, we already planned to celebrate both our anniversary & valentine's day in KL since it is just days apart. But coincidentally, RWS offered a complimentary stay during this time and so we ended up staying with Equarius Hotel again.

I went over after work and walked into the surprise that le fiancé planned!

So cheesy, I cannot even! He's a hopelessly romantic person while I'm the kind who cringes at the slightest cheesiness. Thankfully he doesn't do this all the time so I learn to appreciate the once in a blue moon surprises. He also learns that I'm very anal when it comes to receiving flowers because they're really overpriced most of the time. So he actually went to the market to get those roses and arranged the petals himself, leaving 3 leftover stalks for me. Okay, I approve.

Happy 4th (dating) Anniversary to us! ♥

Did brunch at quayside after lazing in bed till noon. I decided that we have Spanish cuisine since we haven't tried it before. The food was amazing albeit the small portions served. It is quite understandable for the petite portions though because Spanish cuisines focus on mainly tapas dishes. I guess my favorite of the meal would be the Spanish doughnuts, Churros! Crispy sticks of flour coated with cinnamon, dipped into hot chocolate sauce --- genius invention! It is Churros for me, anytime.

Bangkok 2015 | {Eat} ROAST cafe

In search for the best brunch in Bangkok. Having been to ROAST on my previous trip, I thought I should keep my options open to other cafes. Asked my dearest cousin who was in Bkk cafe hopping a week before me - so far the best is still ROAST.

And so I was back, again.

Roasted garlic tomato soup
New england clam chowder
Roast iced tea | Matcha Latte
Pulled pork burger
Crab cake benedict | Mushroom & garlic pasta

We were out in the early morning so there wasn't a crowd at ROAST when we arrived, or probably because it was a Thursday. Either way, it was good to start our day in ambiance instead of being seated in a rowdy restaurant.

This trip's food itinerary is almost a replica of my previous trip to Bangkok in 2013. But it was almost impossible to give up eating at our list of favourite food haunts when we were planning for Bangkok. Turns out, I got quite bored of already knowing what we would be expecting for our meals. We're done with the revisits and I'm really looking forward to our next trip, with new food haunts and fresh experiences!
